    Graduate school is complicated. Some days are better than others, and there is no wrong time to reach out to the support services that are available to you. The University of Toronto recently launched a comprehensive student mental health resource portal. We have aligned our resource page to incorporate the same continuum approach to care.

    Connect to Support and Services

    Drop-in, low commitment resources to connect with peers and professionals

    Graduate Counselling Services: To schedule a session, call 416-978-8030 and select option 5. Short-term counselling offered to graduate students by the Health & Wellness Centre and School of Graduate Studies.

    Culturally-competent mental health and counselling services in 146 languages for international student use.

    Accessibility Services: 416-978-8060

    Assists in navigating disability-related barriers to your academic success for your on-going or temporary disability. Provides services and supports for learning, problem solving and inclusion.

    Mental Health Services Portal: Browse the university's portal for more in-depth services - care categories, locations, providers and topics can be customized to ensure you find the resource that fits your needs best!

    Health & Wellness UTSG:

    Health & Wellness Peer Support Service: Open to UTSG students. Chat with trained U of T student peer; one-on-one, drop-in, online and in-person Wednesday to Friday, 11 AM - 4 PM.

    UTSG On-campus peer support locations: Robarts Library, Room 1152 (Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m)/ Engineering & Computer Science Library, Group Study Room A (Wednesday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.)/ Student Commons, Room 246 (Thursdays, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.)/ Gerstein Library, Room 1342 (Fridays, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m., access through room 1340)

    Virtual peer support (via Zoom): (Wednesday– Friday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

    UTSC Individual Counselling: One at a Time Therapy (OAAT) & Brief counselling support is available, they also offer same day appointments.

    24-hour confidential helpline providing professional counselling, information, and referrals for mental health, addictions, and well-being to post-secondary students in Ontario.

    Toronto Distress Centre: 416-408-4357

    24-hour hotline, online chat, and text offering emotional support, suicide prevention, and direction to resources.

    StudentLife: A list of resources for students when they are in immediate distress (i.e. 24/7 crisis helplines, community contacts for mental health support, housing etc.)

    National Crisis line: Text 988

    The service offers trauma-informed and culturally affirming support to anyone who is thinking of suicide, or who is worried about someone they know.

    While the focus of 9-8-8 is on suicide prevention, no one who reaches out to the service will be turned away. Whoever you are, wherever you are located in Canada, by calling or texting 9-8-8 you can connect with a trained responder who’s ready to listen without judgement. In the face of increased demand for crisis services, 9-8-8 provides: A number that’s easy to remember in a crisis situation. Support in English and in French, by phone and text. Quick access to support from trained responders, available 24/7/365. High quality, evidence-based, equitable suicide prevention and crisis support for everyone in Canada.

    OISE Psychology Clinic: Provides psychological assessment and psychotherapy services to children and adults for emotional, social, interpersonal and academic concerns.

    Learn to develop skills to manage overwhelming emotions

    SGS Better Coping Skills Workshop Series: Graduate student workshops to develop coping skills to better meet the demands of university, work, and personal life. Students can be referred following an initial intake appointment. Register through the CLNx online portal.

    Mindful Moments: Daily drop-in meditations, yoga, and Tai Chi for focus, relaxation, and resilience.

    BreathingRoom: App and program that helps you relax and connect with yourself. It gives you videos to watch, exercises and visualizations to try, music to listen to and even movie and book suggestions.

    Build Your Toolkit Portal: Search the university's portal for more apps, podcasts, books, and programs that can help you develop skills and build emotional resilience!

    Identify, Assist, Refer (IAR): A free uoft based training program, “Identify, Assist, Refer” approach provides students with the basic skills and information needed to support people experiencing mental health challenges, whether or not they live with a mental illness

    Guide to Dealing with Disabilities in Canada: A comprehensive resource that covers how individuals in Canada can navigate life with a mental disability, including legal considerations, workplace rights, benefits, and available support systems.

    Feeling Distressed Contact List: Distress can be complex and deeply personal. This PDF provides community and on-campus contact resources that can provide comprehensive support for different types of distress:

    Navi - Your Mental Health Wayfinder: An anonymous chat tool that provides you with information to help you navigate mental health resources and make decisions about seeking appropriate supports.

    Graduate Peer Support Network (GPSN): Offer Faculty of Medicine graduate students with mental health and wellness support and resources. Pair mentees with trained volunteer mentors based on similar areas of training. Hold seminars focused on graduate life or physical activity. Are associated with the Faculty of Medicine, Graduate and Life Sciences Education.

    Talk 4 Healing: Fully confidential helpline for Indigenous women that is available in 14 languages. Women can phone 1-855-554-HEAL or visit the website’s live chat function.

    Family Care Grief Support: Some resources and services include grief dinners, counselling and support groups, spiritual care, and legal and government information.

    Architecture, Landscape, and Design Department: To book a same-day or next-day appointment, contact the Health and Wellness Centre at 416-978-8030 (select option “5”). Follow-up appointments are booked directly with the counsellor or through Health & Wellness.

    Biochemistry Department: Bwell - student-run, department of biochemistry wellness initiative. If you need help finding resources or would like to suggest a resource to be added here, please email us at bwell.biochem@gmail.com or fill out our anonymous contact form.

    Biomedical Engineering Department: GECos - Skule™ Mental Wellness and the GECoS Mental Wellness Commission both support students' well-being by advocating for mental health awareness, planning programs and events, and working with faculty and departments to implement positive change.

    Multi-Faith Centre: 416-946-3120.
    Supports the spiritual well-being of students, staff and faculty and increases our understanding of and respect for religious beliefs and practices.
